Prayer Shawls
Wondering what "prayer shawls" are all about? They are hand-crafted wraps (or in some cases, lap blankets), mindfully created to provide comfort and support to people in need of God's love and peace in times of personal struggle, most often health-related. The item is knit or crocheted while the crafter prays for it's future recipient. By praying over each stitch, we infuse our shawls with comfort, caring, love, support and most importantly, hope. It's a powerful way to establish a human connection between the recipient and crafter and make the spiritual physical. Our finished items are hten blessed and delivered to members of the community who need to be wrapped in the peace of Christ. Creating shawls in the spirit of prayer is also a centering experience for the crafter.
We've also expanded our efforts ro include smaller, fun but no less rewarding projects throughout the year. We create prayer squares to support the work of the Diocese's St. Matthias Ministry. As winder approaches, you'll find some of us working on scarves and hats for those in the community who struggle to keep warm. Our beanies have also adorned the heads of preemies in local hospitals.
There are many ways to connect with our ministry. We host monthly gatherings in the church hall on the first Tuesday of the month from 6-7:30pm. This is a great oppoortunity to meet new people, learn to knit or crochet, and share fellowship and faith in a small group setting. If you are unable to join us in person, we'd love to have you knit or crochet from home and would be delighted to share our patterns and supplies. Finally, if you're not the crafty type but would like to support our work, we gratefully accept yarn donations.
